How switching works

Switching to Kafono, one step at a time.

You do three small things. We do the moving, and your old service keeps working until the moment your number arrives.

Your old serviceKafonoMove day
  1. TodayYou check the number and sign up.
  2. While it goes throughWe send the request and follow it to a date.
  3. Before the dayThe adapter or phones arrive. Plug in, install the app.
  4. Move dayThe number arrives. Make a test call in and out.
  5. AfterYour old provider closes that line. Nothing to cancel.
Your old service keeps working from today until move day, when the number moves to Kafono. Kafono gets ready alongside it: you sign up today, we follow the request to a date, the adapter or phones arrive before the day, and after a test call on move day your old provider closes that line.

Your part

Three small things.

  1. 1Check your number. Type it in. You’ll know it can come before you pay.
  2. 2Choose a plan and phones. Keep your phones with the adapter, add new ones, or use the app.
  3. 3Tell us about the old account. Its account number and PIN, and the name on the bill, then sign to say the number is yours to move.

Our part

Everything else.

  • We send the request to your old provider.
  • If a detail doesn’t match, we tell you which, and send it again.
  • We tell you the day as soon as they confirm it.
  • The adapter or new phones come by mail, before the day.
  • On the day, the number rings on Kafono.

Don’t cancel your old service. Cancelling first can lose the number. The move closes that line for you.

Have these before you start.

Tick them off as you find them. A business also needs the account’s main number, sometimes called the billing telephone number, and a list of every number to move.

Check your number

How long it takes, honestly.

Moves aren’t instant: the old provider has to release the number. We tell you the date as soon as they confirm it, and your phone keeps working the whole time.

What slows a move down.

Nearly always a detail that doesn’t match the old account. If a request comes back, we say which detail to fix and send it again.

  • A name or address that differsEven slightly from what the old provider has on file.
  • A wrong account number or PINOr a PIN that has expired.
  • A number in a bundleThe main number of a phone, internet and TV account.
  • A lock or a pending orderPort protection has to be off for the number to move.

Questions about switching.

Do I need a new number?
No, but you can have one. Pick it by area code or town on the number search, or at checkout.
What do I need from my old provider?
Your account number and, if they use one, a PIN or passcode. Both are usually on your bill or in your account online.
Should I cancel my old service first?
No. Cancelling first can lose the number. Keep it until we tell you the move is done.
Does moving my number cost anything?
No. Moving every number you bring is free, and your old service keeps working until it’s done. You can start on a temporary number meanwhile.
Can I keep my phone number?
Usually, yes. Type it into the number check and you’ll know before you pay. We do the moving, and your old service keeps working until it’s done.
Will the phones I already have work?
Yes. Most home phones, cordless ones too, plug into the Kafono adapter. If you’d rather have new ones, add a cordless set at checkout.

Start with the number.

It takes a few seconds, and you’ll know before you pay anything.
