A drawing with made-up callers. It dials nobody and doesn’t touch your microphone. The real thing is just below.

That was a drawing. This is the real one.

It comes with your account, on whatever page you’re on. There’s no phone app to open first, and no second window to keep track of.

Call history in the browser with a call to Harbor Clinic on the bar, Tomas Reyes waiting above it with Decline, End & answer and Hold & answer, and Call back beside each caller to return
  1. CallOn every page, beside your name: a name, a number or an extension.
  2. Every number’s a buttonCall back from Call history, Voicemail, Contacts, Everyone and Insights.
  3. A second callDecline, End & answer or Hold & answer, with the company number they dialed.
  4. Your callAt the foot of the window while you move from page to page. Minimise it to a pill.
  5. Every keyMute, hold, record, transfer, park, conference, keypad, notes and your audio.

Every key on a desk phone. And two it never had.

On a desk phone

It has no key for these

Press a key.

Hold

Your microphone stops and the caller hears your company’s hold music. Take another call, then Swap between them, up to three at a time.

The call bar on a call with Tomas Reyes, its 1 on hold list open: Harbor Clinic on hold for 0:04, with Swap, Transfer and Hang up

Transfer

Straight through, or Talk first and ask. Every name says whether they’re free, on a call or away, so you send a call knowing.

Transfer and park
Transfer Tomas Reyes: your other call to Merge or Join, then people by state with Talk first, Transfer and a voicemail button, then the ring group and queue

Park

One press takes the next free slot, or pick one. Anyone can pick the caller up, from any phone, by dialing the slot.

Transfer and park
The call bar with its Park menu open: Park in 701, 702 or 703

Conference

Turn the call you’re on into a conference call, then Add people. Everyone on the line is listed under the bar.

Conference calls
A conference call on the bar with its participants under it: Harbor Clinic and you, with Add

Audio

Change microphone or speaker in the middle of a call. A level shows it’s hearing you, and Test plays a chime.

The call bar with Audio devices open: the microphone and the speaker, each System default or a headset, a Test, and Audio and alerts

Record

Start a recording partway through, pause it, then stop, if your company lets you.

Call recording
The call bar on a call being recorded, its Recording menu open: Pause recording and Stop recording

Voicemail drop

Reached their voicemail? Choose a recording and leave. It plays to them after you’ve gone, and you’re on to the next call.

Voicemail drop
The call bar with Voicemail drop open: recordings by name, each with its length

Notes

Write while you talk. Your team sees it on the call in Call history once it ends.

Call notes
The call bar with Notes open: Add a note for your team, and They’re on the call in Call history once it ends
The dialer: a field for a name, number or extension, Recent and People, Call, then the line it calls as with its caller ID and the address 911 reports

Your business number goes out. From wherever you are.

Calls go out from your extension with its caller ID, just as they do from a desk phone. Nobody sees your cell.

  • Type anything. A name, a number or an extension. Letters dial too, so a number spelled as a word needs no working out.
  • See who’s free. People lists who’s free first and counts them, with why the rest are busy.
  • See who’s waiting. Recent marks the callers nobody has called back yet.

Or press the number where you found it

It finds you. Then rings just once.

A phone in a browser is only any use if you hear it. So the call comes to wherever you’re looking.

An incoming call in the corner of the page: Harbor Clinic, (480) 555-0142, Calling Main line, with Decline and Answer
  • In the tab’s name

While it rings, the tab’s title says who’s calling, so you see it in the tab strip with nothing to allow.

  • On every tab

Open your account in five tabs and the call shows in all of them, to answer from any. One tab does the ringing, so it rings once.

  • Over everything else

In another tab or another app, a notification says who’s calling. Allow it once, and it closes when you’re back.

  • On top of a call

Already talking? A soft beep on your call instead of a ring, and the new caller shows above the bar.

Ring on the speakers. Talk on the headset.

Take your headset off and you’ll still hear it ring. This browser keeps a microphone, a speaker and where the ring plays, and a change applies at once, even in the middle of a call.

Twelve ringtones. Press one.

Audio and alerts: the microphone with its level, the speaker with Play test sound, the ringtone with Play ringtone, and Ring on

One extension. Every phone rings.

The tab joins your other phones. It doesn’t replace them unless you want it to. You answer on whichever is closest, and the rest stop.

Will it work on this computer? Ask it.

This is the browser it would run in, so it can answer for itself. It’s the same check the real setup makes. What you say stays on this page, and the microphone is let go when you stop.

MicrophoneYour browser will ask to use it.
SpeakerPress it. You should hear a chime.

Two presses, and you’ll know.

On in a minute. Then it stays on.

Next time you sign in, it’s already on, with nothing to ask.

1

Flip the switch.

On My phone, or in your account menu.

The Calls from this browser row on My phone, switched on: what 911 reports, and Calls to you ring here while the portal is open
2

Allow your microphone.

Your browser asks once, and it says which one it found.

Make calls from this browser, step 1 of 2: what it does, calling from Ext 1003 with its caller ID, and Microphone works
3

Read where 911 goes.

It asks once. Help goes to the address on your extension, so someone working from home needs to know. More on 911

Emergency calls, step 2 of 2: 911 calls from this browser report your extension’s address, wherever you are, with a box to tick that you understand

The small print. Said plainly.

Questions about the web phone.

What do I need?
A Mac or Windows computer with a current browser, and a microphone or a headset. Nothing to install. You can check both on this page.
Does it replace the desk phone?
It can. Or keep the desk phone and use the browser when you work somewhere else. Both ring, and you answer on whichever is closest.
What do callers see?
Your business. Calls go out from your extension with its caller ID, just as they do from a desk phone, so your cell number stays yours.
What if I close the browser?
A closed or sleeping browser can’t ring. Your other phones still do, and a call nobody answers goes where it always goes. For calls anywhere, use the app.
What about a phone or tablet?
Use the Kafono app on iPhone and Android. It rings with your number too, locked or not.
Does it cost extra?
No. It comes with business phone.

Put your desk phone in a tab.

Check your business number. The web phone comes with business phone, with nothing to install.
